When 7-year-old Gianna Palacios wouldn’t partake in the ritual of saying what she was thankful for prior to her family’s Thanksgiving dinner last year, her mother realized that it was because she was missing her father, a firefighter who had to work that day. Later that night, her mother “explained that firemen can’t always be home on special days with the people they love most.” She also told Gianna her dad was “a very special hero who saves lives and was needed by many others.”The next morning when Gianna’s dad arrived home, he found his daughter dressed in his firefighter gear.
